Just nine months after what many called the senseless killing of Florida teen Trayvon Martin another teen has been suspiciously killed.
Late Friday, an unarmed Jordan Russell Davis was shot dead outside a Jacksonville, Florida gas station after an argument with a man who allegedly confronted him about the loud music he was playing, according to investigators. WESH-TV reports the teen and his friends, who were in an SUV, were returning home from a day at the mall. Davis was 17.
Jordan and Dunn exchanged words, and Dunn pulled a gun and shot eight or nine times, striking Jordan twice, said Jacksonville Sheriff’s Lt. Rob Schoonover. Jordan was sitting in the back seat; no other injuries were reported.
The shooter, who remained in jail late Tuesday, has been identified as 45 year-old Michael David Dunn. Dunn was arrested in his central Florida home Saturday after having fled the scene according to Jacksonville Police. An Orlando Sentinel report says Dunn was in Jacksonville (northern Florida) for his son’s wedding with an unnamed girlfriend who was in the gas station at the time of the shooting. Monday, Dunn’s attorney claimed her clients acted, “in self-defense.”
Dunn is Vice President of Dunn & Dunn Data Systems, a technology firm. Unconfirmed reports say he is gun collector and licensed pilot.
